This is an in-depth, step-by-step example demonstrating how Terri Harrison and the team at Nature Nurture use the Component Model to reflect on their early intervention sessions outdoors with groups of primary school aged children.
In Nature Nurture we frequently use the 7-part component model as an effective tool for staff dialogue. This practice example provides an account of how it was used by our team to unpack an incident that was part of a whole series of concerning behaviours we observed in one particular child. Through reflection on what we saw we were able to gain a better understanding of the child’s behaviour, our responses to his behaviour and identify next steps in our approach to support his development.
The process took 20 minutes at the end of one of our outdoor contact sessions with the children.
