Click on the slideshow link below to see how a pupil support worker used story telling and role play to develop emotional vocabulary and early emotional understanding using the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff as a stimulus for Emotion Works learning.
She took photographs of the activities which she then used to develop the slideshow with the help from the pupils themselves. They helped to choose the words to go in the speech bubbles which further consolidated the emotional language and literacy.
Here is a list of the vocabulary that cropped up and was reinforced during the course of the lesson series.
Emotion Words: scared / frightened / angry / sad / brave / happy / safe
Triggers: crossing the bridge / noisy footsteps / the Troll being angry / the Troll going away / eating fresh grass
Body Sensations: thumping heart / puffy tight chest / prickly eyes
Behaviours: shouting / loud voice / stomping or stamping / strong fists / downturned lips or mouth / slumped shoulders / making body big / saying ‘hooray’
