Blue Regulation Strategies Cog “Fortune Teller”

Tell a blue regulation strategy cog “fortune” with this quick lesson idea!

Remember those “fortune tellers” from your own school days? Here’s one to help discuss and plan regulation strategies. Thanks to P2/3 Nurture Group at Currie Primary, Edinburgh for sharing their excellent idea with us!

Use a piece of paper to create a “fortune teller”. Use colours or numbers on the outside. Use colours or numbers on the inside then lift the flap to reveal up to eight different blue cog strategies to talk about and try. The Symbol Book is a great prompt for this activity and encourages both pupils and practitioners to think about new/different ways of regulating.

For older pupils, or those with a deeper understanding of each of the cogs, the outside and inside flaps can include emotion words and/or behaviours, as in this one below.
