Emotion Works @ Treetop Family Nurture Centre

A number of practice examples for Early Years settings are included in this comprehensive account of Emotion Works roll-out at Treetop Family Nurture Centre in Dunfermline, Fife.

We’re delighted to be working with Senior Early Years Officer Lorna McGuigan, Early Years Officer Connie Hay (both accredited Emotion Works Practitioners) along with the other staff, children and families at Treetop to help us formalise our Early Years Accreditation Award. For now, here’s a presentation that Lorna has compiled of their journey so far, with the videos from the presentation

Videos from the presentation:

Video 1. A young child is helped with adult prompting within the cog framework and symbol support to share his story about a recent emotional event

Video 2. A large interactive display was developed using the Cog visuals with extra text prompts to support staff to support children to talk about emotional experiences. In this example a child is consulted about how she feels about her upcoming transition to primary 1.

Video 3. Lorna McGuigan, Senior EYP explains the reasons why Treetop management and staff are so positive about using Emotion Works as a programme for Emotional Literacy for children, families and staff.

Video 4. A member of the staff team provides positive feedback on using Emotion Works at Treetop on children’s confidence in talking about and understanding their emotions, particularly relating to regulation strategies, which are now being shared with parents to be practiced at home.
