Ffffffrrrreeeeeeeezzzzzzzzing Intensity Snowflakes: Looking at Intensity using cold weather

An emotionally neutral way of exploring Intensity (Grey Cog).

It can be difficult for pupils to scale emotional language so using a neutral context can be effective for introducing the concept of Intensity (grey cog).

This example uses the Body Sensation COLD. Pupils were asked to share words that meant the same or similar to cold. They chose: baltic, freezing, icy, frosty, very cold. The teacher added more sophisticated vocabulary, like glacial, raw, sub-zero. From this shared list, each pupil populated a snowflake with their ten chosen cold words. Pupils then added a number beside each word to scale these by how cold they were. (Any requiring additional support could access the intensity symbol bank.)

The result was a class full of intensity snowflakes!
