A Non Fiction idea to introduce the Red Cog to older learners and develop associated vocabulary.
Teaching the cog concepts individually, as well as the associated vocabulary, is crucial for all school age learners.
For older pupils, more complex and detailed texts can be used, like this Body reference book.
Pupils were each given an individual page to read and highlight in pink pen for body sensations. Key vocabulary included pulse, pulse points, heart contracts strongly, high pressure surge, abnormally fast heartbeat. The vocabulary was shared with partners, words and phrases discussed and all suggestions collated on a learning display.
This is a very simple activity but the concept (pulse) and the vocabulary made it more challenging and suitable for user primary and early secondary.
