Marvin gets Mad

It can be helpful to use the dry wipe component cards to discuss and link events in a story. This example is from the book ‘Marvin gets Mad’, by Joseph Theobold, but the idea could be used for lots of different stories.

Following a read through of the story, the teacher focused on this page to talk about what it was that made Marvin mad. Learners were then asked to make a personal response to the character’s emotion trigger by thinking of something similar that would make them feel mad. Using post it notes for each person to write or draw their own response helps everyone make a contribution.

This planning tool helps you use a 'coggle lens' when considering a text to use for Emotion Works teaching

Attached with this example is an ‘Activity Analysis’ planning sheet completed for Marvin gets Mad. You can see how each cog concept has been identified within the story, and how notes and prompts have been added to help plan learning conversations.
