Creating a symbol song prompt to support knowledge, understanding and vocabulary of the Body Sensations (red) cog.
Having the language and understanding of body parts is crucial to learning about the red Body Sensations cog concept for all pupils, regardless of age or stage.
This short song teaches the main body parts (head, arms, legs) in a simple, catchy way and can be used at any stage. This example focuses on early years learning and developing early emotional vocabulary.
From this song clip, the practitioner created a body parts song prompt to guide the children through the song and support their understanding. The symbols used are from our black and white Emotion Works symbols (link below). The practitioner added some additional symbols on blank cards for any missing vocabulary. A red card was used to link the vocabulary with the red Body Sensations concept. Although a cog is pictured, this wasn’t discussed with early years learners.
Children then experimented with body parts words to create their own songs, using this tune but by mixing up the symbols.
