Yuck! That’s disgusting! – A Craft Idea

When the goal is to develop emotional vocabulary and language, all kinds of craft projects can be used to provide a backdrop for word learning and language use.

Here the emotion word focus was ‘disgust‘.

But as you look at these pictures…

  • Can you also think of words and phrases that might have been used when talking about things pupils find disgusting? Which emotion cog does this language relate to?
  • Which words and phrases could you also use during an activity like this to encourage children to use words and phrases relating to the behaviour/expression cog?

Try printing out and using this sheet to support conversations about yucky and yummy feelings. Do you notice how much richer the language use is?

Have a look at the ‘extra resource’ symbol sheet provided here. It can be downloaded and printed out as a useful set of symbols to have to hand to support language work while engaging in an activity like this.

Also – consider how you could use this sheet in a more formal way when supporting learners at the stage of learning about the cog concepts and colour coding system.

Finally, if you’re working on relationship building and Connect profiling activities, don’t forget to take note of pupil’s likes and dislikes expressed during these activities, and don’t forget to share some of your own too!
